Early election win #SOS campaign
The Limestone Coast Sustainable Futures Association (LCSFA) has welcomed commitments from both the South Australian Liberal Party and MacKillop MP Nick McBride to support an independent vulnerability assessment into the impacts of rare earth strip mining on the Limestone Coast. The pledges come in direct response to the association’s ongoing #SaveOurSoils campaign, which calls for science-based, transparent safeguards to protect the region’s soils, groundwater, and long-term agricultural productivity. LCSFA Chair Todd Woodard said the election commitments are a positive step, reflecting the strength of advocacy by local farmers, residents, and community volunteers but noted the campaign would continue until all…

New Regional Plan prioritises ag land after community advocacy
The Limestone Coast Sustainable Futures Association (LCSF) has welcomed the release of the rebadged Limestone Coast Regional Plan, praising the State Government for listening to community feedback and delivering a renewed planning framework that prioritises the region’s most valuable agricultural and water assets. LCSF Chair Todd Woodard said the updated Plan – which has removed the Koppamurra mining project as a regional priority – reflects sustained local advocacy calling for stronger land-use protections and greater certainty for farmers, landholders and regional communities concerned about the impacts of rare earth mining. “This Plan demonstrates that the Government has listened. The emphasis…

Farmers urged to “pledge a lamb” to support #SaveOurSoils campaign
Farmers across the Limestone Coast are being encouraged to pledge a lamb, make a donation, or join the Limestone Coast Sustainable Futures Association (LCSF) as the community ramps up efforts to protect prime farmland from the threat of rare earth mining. LCSF Chair Todd Woodard said the fundraising and membership drive was essential to ensure farmers and landholders had a strong, informed, and coordinated voice as mining pressure on the region grows. Participating local stock agencies include Nutrien, SAL, PPHS, Elders, and TDC who will coordinate the distribution of proceeds of sale directly to the association during the summer selling…

Regional voices ignored in Mining Act Reform
The Limestone Coast Sustainable Futures Association has condemned the State Government’s rushed reform of the Mining Act saying it further strips away farmers’ rights and ignores the voices of regional communities. The Bill, tabled in Parliament this week, proposes sweeping changes to the Mining Act 1971 that committee chairman Todd Woodard said favour mining expansion at the expense of agricultural landholders and the environment. “The Government has ignored every reasonable call for stronger land-use protection, independent oversight, and transparent rehabilitation. Instead, these reforms hand even more power to the Minister and the mining sector — at the expense of farming…
